Watercolour art work depicting Cows drinking at the village fountain during the transhumance
Thirsty Work (Transhumance Refreshment)

Transhumance is a type of pastoralism or nomadism, a seasonal movement of livestock between fixed higher pastures in the summer and lower valley pastures in the winter. The route is lined with villagers watching the spectacle and the cattle are often decorated with crowns of flowers or bunting. Here the village fountain was especially prepared so the herds could stop for a drink. Thirsty work all that walking.
